Visitors to Brancepeth are sometimes surprised to find, almost tucked away, at the end of a very attractive, rural, main street, a delightful country church, and a massive ‘medieval’ castle. But this church, and its Rectors, and this castle, and its owners, have dominated the life of the village. For nearly a thousand years the people of Brancepeth were governed by, and sometimes torn between, the whims of the ‘feudal’ lords in the castle, and the demands of the Church.
